The war memorial at Ferryhill was unveiled on the 31st January, 1925, by Brigadier General H.C. Surtees. The statue of a Durham Light Infantry soldier resting on his rifle, was built to commemorate 139 local servicemen from the Parish who died in the First World Wat (1914-18). It is located in a public garden between North Street and Chapel Terrace.
