Felling Shore
Felling Shore is part of the Felling area of Gateshead, located by the River Tyne. Historically, Felling Shore was a separate settlement; then in 1894, it was one of the three settlements which were amalgamated to form the larger town of Felling. In the late 18th century, a whaling oil processing factory was established at Felling Shore. In the 19th century, the area became significantly industrialised, with coal shipping staithes, chemical works, factories and a large brewery (the old Brewery Lane, lined with public houses, once ran from Sunderland Road to Felling Shore). Much of the old village of Felling Shore was demolished in 1931 by Felling Urban District Council, to be replaced by new housing. Later an industrial estate was established here (now Felling Industrial Estate).
