Black House, Catcleugh


The Black House at Catcleugh was built in c.1891 and is maintained as a heritage attraction in the Northumberland National Park. It is the last remaining wooden cabin built as part of a shanty town called 'Newcastle' to house workers building Catcleugh Reservoir for the Newcastle and Gateshead Water Company. The building is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
