Beatrix Potter (1866 - 1943)

Beatrix Potter (1866 - 1943) was a writer, illustrator, natural scientist, and conservationist -  best known for her illustrated children's books, including The Tale of Peter Rabbit. She had a long association with The Lake District, starting in 1882, with a family vacation at Wray Castle. Beatrix lived at Hill Top (house) in Near Sawrey, near Hawkshead, from 1905 until her death in 1943. She owned and ran nearby farms. Hill Top is now owned by the National Trust.
