National:

  • 24th March 1603: death of Queen Elizabeth I of England (the last monarch of the Tudor dynasty).
  • 26th March 1603: 'Union of the Crowns' -  at Berwick upon Tweed it was proclaimed that James VI of Scotland had ascended to the throne of the Kingdom of England as James I. This brought the two separate realms under a single individual monarch.
