    Newcastle City Council has opened a stunning new high tech library in the city centre and named it after the 18th century composer Charles Avison. This film shows some of the opening ceremony with the Friends of the Avison Ensemble and presentations to the Avison Ensemble's Young Musicians' Awards 2009 winners by The Lord Mayor of Newcastle. The Avison Ensemble is the outstanding period instrument orchestra based in Newcastle upon Tyne, which plays and popularises the music of Charles Avison (1709-1770) and other English classical composers of the Baroque period, such as Garth, Arne and Herschel.
