Sunbeam Trolley

  • Description

This bus is special to my granddad because he used to ride on it when he was little, this photograph is a Newcastle Corporation Sunbeam trolley bus coming up Jesmond bank on route 41 and was on of the buses he used to travel on to go to school in the early 1960s. This reminds him of some of the things he did using the buses to get and from school. The fare to school was one and a half old pennies and was called three ha' pence, so that was 6d a day (2.5p). BUT if he walked two stops and it wasn't very far so it would only cost him 1 penny ! Just before the last stop the buses had to slow down to turn a corner and quite often he would jump off if it was moving slowly or had to stop.
